There's still enough new material each year to keep me energized. You'll notice after a couple of years that there is a good bit of overlap - both recycle models a lot. My third reason is simply that Margaret gives me more of what I personally like - money folds and post-it folds - than Jeffrey typically offers. My second reason is her little factoids she sprinkles throughout the calendar - many of them are really interesting and I probably wouldn't have stumbled across them myself, not spending a lot of time surfing the net. I keep a stock of paper/post-it notes, and if I like the paper design, I'll carefully scan it so I can produce as many pieces as I wish, resize it, etc. I don't do as suggested and tear pages out of my calendars to fold. I personally like Margaret's the best for three reasons - she provides an index to the folds, and while her categories may not be perfect(it annoys me that she puts dolphin in with the fish!), they do help narrow down where to find specific folds. There have been a few other scattered attempts, but these two origamists have reliably produced a Fold-a-Day for many years now. I'm not going to set up individual review pages for these because there are only really two lines of origami calendars - Jeffrey Cole's(Accord, Andrew-McMeel) and Margaret Van Sicklen's(Workman Publishing) - unless you are really into airplanes, because there are two series of those too. ![]() It's also a great way to encounter designs you may not have run across before that you can add to your amaze-the-kids repertoire - you can never have too many of those. ![]() If you have a more physical occupation, it will still get your brain moving in the morning before you have to embrace morning traffic. It's a great way to start your workday if you're a cubicle or office hobbit. The folds tend to be simpler ones because the instructions and diagrams have to fit on a 6"圆" piece of paper along with a picture of the finished model.
